On the implementation process of the Concession Agreement of Southern Railway of Armenia

In 2012, the Government of Armenia signed a Concession Agreement of the Southern Railway of Armenia with RASIA FZE Company.
The agreement envisages the construction of a 316 km railway, from the vicinity of the town of Gavar to the southern border of Armenia, near the city of Meghri, which will link to the existing central railway system of the Republic of Armenia.
The Concession Agreement provides specific timeframes for the phases of project feasibility study, program financing, construction and operation.
The Government has been patient with "RASIA FZE", but the company has not met the deadlines and other contractual obligations.
Taking into consideration the abovementioned and the strategic significance of this Program for the Republic of Armenia, the Government of RA is undertaking efforts to complete the railway separately from "RASIA FZE".
